Collection Profile for:
University of Hargeisa Herbarium (HARG-UH)
The University of Hargeisa Herbarium (herbarium code HARG) is a small but growing scientific plant collection based at the University of Hargeisa in Hargeisa, Somaliland (internationally considered part of Somalia). It was established in 2016 to serve as a primary resource for research, education, and taxonomic study of Somaliland’s vascular plants, and although its holdings are modest—on the order of a few hundred specimens—it has contributed valuable botanical information used in scientific literature. The herbarium is part of the university’s Biodiversity Museum and focuses on documenting the region’s native vascular plants, supporting teaching and local flora research. In addition to specimen curation, collaborations and training programs have helped build capacity in plant taxonomy and herbarium practices in the region.
