It was established in 2016 to serve as a primary resource for research, education, and taxonomic study of Somaliland’s vascular plants, and although its holdings are modest—on the order of a few hundred specimens—it has contributed valuable botanical information used in scientific literature. The herbarium is part of the university’s Biodiversity Museum and focuses on documenting the region’s native vascular plants, supporting teaching and local flora research.
