The Addis Ababa University Herbarium, also known as the National Herbarium of Ethiopia (ETH), is the country’s principal botanical research collection and one of the most important herbaria in the Horn of Africa. Established in 1959 and housed within Addis Ababa University’s Department of Plant Biology and Biodiversity Management, it holds roughly 100,000 plant specimens, with a strong focus on Ethiopia and Eritrea. The herbarium underpins taxonomic research, plant identification, biodiversity conservation, and higher education, and has been central to major works such as the Flora of Ethiopia and Eritrea. It is located on the Addis Ababa University main campus in Addis Ababa.
