It is listed in the Index Herbariorum &amp;mdash; the global registry of herbaria &amp;mdash; under the code EAUH and was founded in 2022, with an estimated 1,800 accessions (specimens) in its holdings as of mid-2025.&#13;
Although it is relatively new compared with major African collections, this herbarium serves as an important regional botanical repository, supporting plant specimen curation, local taxonomic study, and research related to the flora of northeastern Somalia. Its establishment reflects growing academic capacity at the university, particularly within departments such as environmental science and agriculture.&#13;
